January 26 - Australia Day Fireworks Spectacular

There's no better way to end Australia Day with your family and friends than by enjoying the Australia Day Fireworks Spectacular on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. The best vantage points are Regatta Point, the lawns of the National Library or Rond Terrace. Be sure to get there early to enjoy the entertainment and great atmosphere. January 26 - Australia Day in the Capital

Australia Day

There's something for everyone to enjoy this Australia Day in the capital, including an Aussie Day BBQ breakfast, kids entertainment, the National Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremony and an evening concert with a fireworks finale. Start your day with Aussie tucker at the ActewAGL Great Aussie Day Breakfast on the lawns of Stage 88, Commonwealth Park. Hear songs from the Sing Australia choir and enjoy a mega Nerf Zone, jumping castle and face painting. Mid morning welcome our newest Australians at the Rond Terrace National Citizenship and Flag Raising Ceremony. Watch for an impressive flyover and 21 gun salute. January 26 - Australia Day at the Museum

Make the National Museum of Australia the place to be this Australia Day. Start off music, dance, craft and family fun at the Australia Day Festival from 10am to 1pm. Then join us as the sun sets, for an evening of larger than life lawn games, fantastic local bands, and settle in for the Australia Day fireworks. Grab something tasty from one of our delicious food vans and cool down with a drink from the cash bar. Get your dancing shoes ready because Googfest is heading our way, bigger and brighter than ever. The free family concert, one of the biggest live music festivals in the ACT region, is happening on Saturday 3 February. Topping the bill will be dance music sensations The Ashton Shuffle, fresh from an Australian tour and live performances at clubs and festivals around the world. The Royal Canberra Show is one of the most anticipated events of the year for the nation’s capital. March 2 to 18 - Enlighten Festival

Spectacular architectural projections, international installations, live entertainment and food galore will see Enlighten transform Canberra into a nocturnal playground. Canberra's Parliamentary Triangle and Enlighten satellite venues (Canberra Glassworks, National Zoo and Aquarium and the Australian National Botanic Gardens) will be transformed into vibrant arts precincts, showcasing Australian premiere performances, amusing roving artists, live bands and enchanting performances - all set against a backdrop of stunning architectural projections that shine a light on some of Australia's most iconic locations. - Parliamentary Triangle Canberra ACT


March 3 - Chinese Lantern Festival

In Chinese culture the Lantern Festival is held 2 weeks after Chinese New Year and marks the formal end of that celebration. This year the ACT Branch of the Australia China Friendship Society will hold the Lantern Festival at the Beijing Garden (part of Lennox Gardens. The main activity will be the Lantern Parade along the shores of Lake Burley Griffin. Bring your own lantern (there is judging of the best hand-made lantern), or buy one at the Festival. There will also be performances of folk dancing, Lion Dance, and martial arts. Bring a picnic and enjoy an evening by the Lake; fun for the whole family. March 10 to 18 - Canberra Balloon Spectacular

The Canberra Balloon Spectacular is considered to be one of the best and longest running hot air ballooning events in the world. Held over nine days, pilots begin laying out and inflating their balloons on the lawns of Old Parliament House from 6.15am each day before ascending into the sky and creating an exhilarating back drop to our national attractions. The 2017 Canberra Balloon Spectacular will also include some special shape balloons from across the globe adding a sense of novelty to the stunning setting each day. Patrons will be treated to an experience of the senses with a flurry of colour, sound and movement. Bungendore Harvest Festival

March 16 to 18 - Bungendore Harvest Festival

Join us for a weekend that will bring the Bungendore region alive in a celebration of food, farming and fibre related activities. The Bungendore Harvest Festival will promote integrity and freshness in the growing, breeding and production of produce in the Southern Harvest Region. On Friday 16th March, linger over meals showcasing locally sourced food and beverages. On Saturday 17th March, the streets of Bungendore will come alive with stalls, talks, cooking demonstrations and other activities. The Festival will take place in marquees along the footpaths in Ellendon Street between (Malbon and Gibratar Streets) and at participating businesses. Stalls along Ellendon Street will include fresh seasonal produce and meat from local farmers, food preserved from local harvests, local wines for tasting, other local food delights. March 24 - Canberra Craft Beer & Cider Festival

The Canberra Craft Beer & Cider Festival will be staged in the gardens of the heritage Mercure Canberra in Braddon and will feature breweries from across Australia along with live bands, food, entertainment and a wide range of kids’ activities. The Festival is ideal for all beer and cider enthusiasts – from beginners to budding craft brewers. April 14 to 29 - Canberra and Region Heritage Festival

The Canberra and Region Heritage Festival will be 16 days of celebration for the region's Aboriginal, historic and natural heritage. This year's theme 'My Culture, My Story' will explore, celebrate, share and preserve our cultural heritage. In 2018 we will be focusing on what makes a place special, encouraging us all to embrace the future by sharing the strength of our cultural identities. Highly distinctive cultural expressions that have been passed from one generation to another and that have evolved in response to their environment, give us a sense of identity and continuity. The Earth Festival

April 21 to 22 - The Earth Festival

The Earth Festival is an educational event for how to be environmentally sustainable, we want to be able to raise awareness about everyday choices and how they impact the environment, animals and other people. Our goal is to help change these choices the community makes to transition them into living a vegan and sustainable lifestyle. We want to encourage the community to change their lifestyle into choosing animal-friendly products and services, to stand for animal rights. The Earth Festival is a two day event over a weekend, consisting of market stalls, a vegan food court, workshops and speakers, activities for adults and kids, live tattooing and raising funds for an animal sanctuary. May 6 - Collector Village Pumpkin Festival

The Collector Village Pumpkin Festival is an annual event held on the first Sunday in May each year. The colourful festival celebrates rural life and the harvest season using a unique pumpkin theme. Highlights include over 100 stall holders and many activities with the flavour of a traditional country fair full of simple fun, lots of colour and imagination. The festival showcases local produce and the arts/craft community. May 19 - Wee Jasper Reserves Bonfire and Fireworks Night

In support of the Yass and District Hospital, Michelle and Michael are hosting a fundraiser at Billy Grace Reserve. It will be a bonfire and fireworks night, with food stalls, entertainment and much more provided. Funds raised will be donated to the Yass and District Hospital and other foundations in honour of Duncan Waters. June 1 to August 31 - The Truffle Festival

September 14 to 16 - Floriade

Developed in 1988 as a grand, one off floral tribute to mark Australia’s Bicentenary and Canberra’s 75th anniversary, Floriade has become Canberra’s most iconic annual tourism event and Australia’s premier spring festival. The floral display of more than a million bulbs and annuals planted across 8,000 square metres of inner city parkland is more than just a flower show. September 15 to October 14 - The Turning Wave Festival

The Turning Wave Festival is a celebration of Irish & Australian music and related arts, modelled along the lines of a typical Irish Fleadh or festival. Held in Yass, NSW on the 3rd weekend in September the festival features concerts, dancing, spoken word, sessions, Irish music classes and a Junior Fleadh catering for young people wanting to learn Irish music. October 27 - Canberra Nara Candle Festival

Enjoy the spectacular visual of 2000 shimmering candles at the annual Canberra Nara Candle Festival, as we celebrate the Sister City relationship shared between Canberra and Nara, Japan.
